Feeding a Fresh Diet with Dr. Harvey's Base Mix

Written by: Dr. Julia Roach from Our Five Dogs

We all know we humans should eat healthy foods, but it can be difficult with all the daily temptations surrounding us when we are out and about. In order to help curb these temptations, however, my family’s motto is: “If it’s not in the house, we can’t eat it.” So if one us (usually me) craves chocolate chip cookies, we bake the cookies from scratch using ingredients we approve of, and avoiding that inevitable empty box of manufactured cookies within minutes (been there, done that)! But, as you know, this blog is NOT about human health… it’s about Our Five Dogs’ health!
We are in charge of our dogs’ diets. Let me say that again: WE ARE IN CHARGE OF OUR DOGS’ DIETS.
My dogs are in charge of many aspects of their lives, such as when they want to get attention (always), when they decide to bark (at every dog that walks by our house), or when they go potty (they have a doggie door), but I am in charge of what they eat at mealtime.
And just like I prefer to feed my human family healthy foods over “manufactured meals”, my dogs’ diets are healthy, too. What does “healthy” look like in doggie meals? For mine, it includes Dr. Harvey’s base mixes (ParadigmCanine Health and Raw Vibrance), humanely-raised proteins from Raw Feeding Miami, and high-quality oils (such as Dr. Harvey’s Health and Shine Omega-3Dr. Harvey’s Health and Shine Salmon and Krill, organic coconut oil and organic olive oil). And get this— feeding five dogs a fresh, healthy, whole food diet takes me less than 10 minutes! It’s a win-win for us!
Normally I fed raw proteins from Raw Feeding Miami, but for this blog post, I decided to cook salmon for their protein to help illustrate that a fresh diet doesn’t have to be a raw diet.
Ready to see how easy feeding a fresh, healthy diet is for Our Five Dogs? Inside each of Dr. Harvey’s base mixes, there is a Feeding Guide that breaks down the amount of scoops, water, proteins and oils that is tailored to a dog’s weight and age (along with a low-protein option).
1. Add hot water to Dr. Harvey’s base mix of choice. Let sit for 8 minutes, or until the dehydrated base mix has absorbed all the water.
2. Add your oils of choice.
3. Add your choice of quality protein.
4. Serve the healthy meal to your happy dog!
