The 8x8 Rawhide Chew is the largest flat-cut square in our lineup, built for big dogs and powerful chewers. Each piece is cut from the hide of pasture-raised and finished cattle raised and processed on the farm. The hide is cleaned, soaked in a natural lye and water bath for hair removal, hand-cut to size, and dried slowly in a dedicated drying room without shortcuts, bleach, or preservatives. Because every piece is made by hand, thickness and color will naturally vary from square to square.
Raw Feeding Fact
Rawhide is composed almost entirely of Type I collagen, the most abundant structural protein in mammalian connective tissue. When a dog chews and partially digests bovine hide, that collagen breaks down into bioavailable peptides including glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline. These are the same amino acids the body uses to synthesize new joint cartilage, skin tissue, and gut lining. Research published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry confirmed that Type I collagen hydrolysates derived from bovine hide are absorbed through the intestinal wall and detected in plasma within 60 minutes of ingestion. For dogs with active joints or skin sensitivities, a rawhide chew can serve as a passive, food-form source of structural protein.
