Most dairy sold today -- even the organic kind -- goes through a pasteurization and homogenization process that destroys the enzymes and beneficial bacteria that make milk worth consuming in the first place. What's left is a nutritionally diminished, harder-to-digest product that can contribute to inflammation over time. Our raw organic cow kefir is the opposite. Fermented from milk sourced from cows that are 100% grass-fed and finished, it arrives with over three dozen strains of live healthy bacteria and active enzymes fully intact. The fermentation process itself further increases digestibility by breaking down lactose, which is why many pets that don't tolerate regular milk handle kefir with no issue. This product ships and stores frozen. Once opened and refrigerated, raw milk naturally sours after 10 to 14 days -- this is soured milk, not rotten milk, and it remains safe. This is normal behavior for raw dairy and a sign that the product is alive and unprocessed.
Kefir has been shown to contain significantly more probiotic strains than yogurt -- sometimes three times as many -- and unlike yogurt, kefir also contains beneficial yeasts that work alongside the bacteria to support gut health. The fermentation process breaks down most of the lactose in the milk, making kefir far more digestible for pets that are sensitive to dairy in its unfermented form.
